Abstract

The Future!
Since the first Australopithecus started wondering about his next day, his next meal, his next prey, all human race has, at one point or another, at any given time of its existence, struggled with this word and pondered about it.
What does the future hold?
And what can we do to have a good one?
These are some of the main concerns of the human species while tenant on the planet Earth!
The future of tourism, of travelling, of well-being, these are some of my specific concerns.
Taking into account what I do for a living, my interests, my circle of friends and relations, it’s fairly easy to understand why this happens, and it’s in this context that I allow myself to elaborate further on the subject.
It wont be just regurgitations of old theorists, or past futurists, but my own visions and dreams of how everything may happen.
More than just a mix of Toffler’s or Asimov’s ideas, I intend to show my own ideas and solutions to problems that may appear, and my own path to a bright, sustainable and desirable future to us all.
Tourism is a limitless industry.
Yes, let’s ponder about this for a moment and we shall see it is true:
Today the world is increasingly connected, increasingly people travel, increasingly there’s culture, food and habits exchange.
But there’s still a host of places, people, points of interest that are unknown, not being part of any circuit or destination, not being yet tourism.
In this light it is easy to see that a lot is still unexplored.
In this light it’s quickly understandable that the potential growth of tourism is, in a word, gigantic!
And all this within our planet.
But even that limit is not uncrossable anymore.
A few years ago an English visionary, known by his unusual promotion campaigns and extravagant sporting achievements proposed the next step: Space tourism!
And we should see his first idea taking shape during 2009: taking up to 6 people aboard a space module coupled to a rocket that will, once out of the Earth’s atmosphere, be let loose, travel the Earth’s orbit for a few moments and then return.
But this is just a first step.
To explore the Moon, visit Neil Armstrong’s foot prints, the Rings of Saturn, the Galaxy of Andromeda, the birth of a new star, or an inhabited paradise planet, who knows?
The future is exactly that: a world of endless possibilities!
And tourism is the future!
What will people want?
Where will they want to go?
And how?
How will hotels evolve?
And restaurants?
And airplanes?
What will we eat?
Where will we sleep?
These and a myriad of other questions will tentatively be answered by me, justified whenever possible by facts, studies and polls, but most of all they shall represent my vision of what will happen, not as a prophet or a visionary, but as a professional in the field with a college education that revolves exactly around tourism and information management.
I hope it pleases and strikes a cord with the academic community but also with all the professionals in the business as well as the general public.
Those of you who travel: Thank you.
